Our MWO Women have made it three championships in a row!! The ladies played a strong game against a very skilled Carlton Redcliffs side with a 1-nil victory.
As the game started, a very thick fog descended on the ground and remained there for the entire game. This made for an interesting and unusual final!
Both teams ground out an even and hard fought first-half, with neither team creating many scoring opportunities. Both teams stepped up a gear in the second half with pressure put on at both ends of the field. With 13 minutes to go, Rose Jamieson slotted the winning goal following a Carlton defensive error.
The last 10 minutes were down to the wire, with Carlton doing most of the attacking, earning a number of penalty corners. The Avon defence, lead by keeper Rebekah Humphries was up to the challenge however keeping the sheet clean. Becs was without a doubt the player of the day with numerous outstanding saves throughout the game but especially in the dying 10 minutes. However, overall the whole team played outstandingly well, displaying great comradery throughout the game. Credit also to Carlton for a great season and final.
Well done ladies, you have done the club proud once again!!
